About the faculty
The faculty has a staff of almost 900 people, employed as teachers, researchers, technicians and administrative staff working at eleven departments and a number of centres. With around 10 000 students, the Faculty of Social Sciences answers for a large share of the university’s range of programmes and courses.
In addition to the traditional subject-specific departments, the faculty also has a number of interdisciplinary research centres: Umeå Centre of Environment and Resource Economics (CERE), Centre for Regional Science (CERUM), Transport Research Unit at Umeå University (TRUM), Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS) and Umeå Sports Sciences Centre (UCIV).
The faculty is also the seat of the Demographic Data Base and Umeå University School of Restaurant and Culinary Arts.
